Heat Medium Heater INternal Inspection
A Cost Analysis
In November 2019, Osprey Integrity was tasked with the internal inspection of a Heat Medium Heater in accordance with ASME Section 1. The asset was 55m in height, and a full internal inspection was required.
We were able to deploy our Flyability Elios 2 for a comprehensive assessment of the Heater, in a fraction of the time.
When comparing the use of UAS in the inspection world to the traditional methods of inspection, the results are overwhelmingly decisive:
Let's Compare
Traditional NB Inspection
- 4-day scaffold construction/teardown - 2-person crew at 40 hours
- Inspection of asset - 3 hours
- Confined space entry required
- Confined space entry monitor and rescue personal for 4 days of scaffold as well as day of inspection - 2-person crew at 45 hours
- Individual photo captures of notable areas
Elios 2 Inspection
- No scaffold build required
- Internal flight - 2-person crew at 3 hours
- Footage review and reporting - 2 hours
- No confined space entry required
- Confined space gas test monitor - 3 hours
- Full HD video recording of entire asset for permanent record
Total Working Hours: 173

While maintaining a comparable deliverable to the ‘in person’ inspection process, we were able to reduce the client’s total expense on this job by 94%. With the ability to have your piece of equipment back up and running in as little as 3 days, compared to one week or more, it is easy to see why this technology is proving it’s worth across the industry.
